Sweet Basil is a Thai restaurant found in Norman , Oklahoma . It is located at 211 West Main Street right across from First Baptist Church . Sweet Basil is one of a few Thai food restaurants in Norman . This restaurant has only been in Norman for a little over a year but it is already very popular.
Sweet Basil has a very mellow feeling to it. The lights are fairly low and the colors are dark. There is not a lot of noise, only the chatter of other customers talking and light background music playing. The steady glow of a large fish tank with many exotic salt water fish in it adds to the relaxed feeling. All of this creates an atmosphere where one wants to sit and enjoy a long peaceful meal.
There are mostly booths to sit in with a few tables and chairs in back room. Seating is one of Sweet Basils main issues. While there are plenty of places to eat in the restaurant, some of the tables are placed uncomfortably close to other tables. When seated at these tables conversations rarely remain private. These awkward tables are always the last to be filled and often times are never occupied.
Sweet Basil is slightly more expensive than other Thai food places in Norman . The taste of the food more than compensates for the increase in price. While other Thai food places in Norman are cheaper, the food is not as rich.
The food at Sweet Basil is delicious because of the variety of tastes combined at one time. This is true for Thai food in general, but it seems that Sweet Basil has an incredible knack for placing the right amount of everything to make the meal perfectly pleasing to the taste buds. Take into account that the spice level can be changed to personal preference and everyone goes home happy and full.
This is a great place for a casual date or a little meeting with friends. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the food is delicious. Sweet Basil makes for a great lunch or dinner.

I agree that Sweet Basil has great food, and I would say that it also has clearly the nicest atmosphere of any Thai restaurant in Norman. It's worth noting, though, that they do not have a liquor license, and it is also not permissible to BYOB.
